Maximum Effort

This comic book fan had the right idea he wore the gold pants. The perfect attire to wear because Deadpool in my opinion is one of the best comic book superhero movies ever. Considering it is one of the highest grossing R rated movies ever this should not be a surprise. The wise cracking R rated humor, over the top action, and of course if you know anything about deadpool a wrecking ball to the fourth wall. The fourth wall being well in lack of a better word the metaphysical wall between us the viewers and the characters we are watching in this case Deadpool. That’s right he knows where he is and how long the movie is running and even the people who wait till the end credits roll to call them out on staying so long. Has your mind been blown yet? No? Good then let us get started.

Gotta Go Back In Time

To understand what is going on as Deadpool states in the movie he has to take us back before he squeezed into his red suit. Which is quite honestly how ninety percent of all comic book movies go. Action and then backstory and then back to the action. Although by no means does that mean this backstory was boring. Far from it as it shows how Wade Wilson also known as Deadpool was a mercenary even before he became Deadpool. Also even going as far as having a relationship develop over the course of the backstory. Although keeping accurate to his comic book origins he was stricken with cancer in more than one area as the movie implies. Well following the theme of many cases his skills were very useful and a secret government organization came to recruit him offering to cure his cancer. But of course as every movie with a secret government operation with some seriously shady individuals doing the legwork proves; this was an evil organization trying to turn Wade into a superhuman slave.

However, knowing that would not be any fun and after going through the experiment to gain superpowers he broke out but not before he got turned into Deadpool complete with a face shown in the image above that spins a bunch of r rated comedic responses between Deadpool and his friend Weasel. Where he gets his superhero name looking up at a scoreboard for mercenaries called “the deadpool”. Which is actually comic book accurate as in the comics the secret organization kept a Deadpool for the inmates to see how long they would last after the experiments. The result was the same as they both end with Wade Wilson escaping and becoming Deadpool. After returning from the evil labs he follows classic story tropes and searches for his girlfriend named Vanessa and also sets off on a mission to find the man who made him what he is known as Francis. Leading to the superhero montage searching for Francis who can fix his face. The hunt began and ended right back where we started with Deadpool right back where he started simply stating just like this wrap up “there all caught up”.

Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) pauses from a life-and-death battle to break the fourth wall, much to the dismay of his comrades Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand) and Colossus (voiced by Stefan Kapicic).

After that the movie is brought back to the hunt in present day with Deadpool dealing with the X-men and then asking for help saving his girl from Francis after trying to talk to her but failing to. Which leads to the final and most awesome part of any superhero movie the final showdown. Featuring Deadpool and the two X men actually brought up in the film; Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead. Shown in the image above Colossus being the metal man on Deapool’s left and Neagasonic being the girl on Deadpool’s right. Who goes after the henchmen of francis while Deadpool goes for the final boss. After a long battle as superhero movies go deadpool has him dead to rights and is ready to kill him. However, when Colossus comes over and tries to do the superhero speech Deadpool shows again how this is not a superhero movie as he shoots francis in the head. Finally getting his revenge and also gets the girl that is where the movie ends. As Deadpool is not a superhero in the regular sense he is an anti-hero meaning he will do the right but he has absolutely no problem killing people or asking for money doing whatever he does.

Merc with a mouth talking for three

While this is in my opinion the best superhero adaptation in movies there was one factor about Deadpool that they didn’t show in the movie was that in the comics is that Deadpool is a schizophrenic he has two additional voices in his head one of logic and one of craziness. They do not show up in the movie which is pretty much the only aspect of him that is not present. Then again this movie was not operating on the biggest of budgets so they had to cut some corners somewhere. However, every other aspect of this movie was perfect and perfectly captured the feeling of what kind of character Deadpool is. That he cracks jokes, has no filter and needs to be portrayed in R rated movies, breaks the fourth wall, and is just genuinely crazy with a good heart.

Get This Movie an Oscar

Finally the best part has to be the all star cast they got for the movie consisting of Ryan Reynolds perfectly cast as Deadpool to the point that he is who they think of when somebody says Deadpool. Then there’s TJ Miller as Weasel, basically Deadpools best friend in the movie, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Deadpool’s love interest, and finally Ed Skrein as the main villain of the film Ajax or his real name Francis. The energy and chemistry was consistent throughout the entire movie. There was never a single dive in the strength of the acting performances in the movie. It is obvious from the first five minutes of the movie that the directors, cast, and crew gave nothing less than maximum effort.
